  •  41,00 NO VAT (private collection) Sophie is vibrant and concentrated, with notes of apple, apricot, lime, and marzipan set against a backdrop of racy acidity and wet stone minerality. Fermented in oak barrels & aged on fine lees for 9 months, this is a wine capable of aging, yet certainly drinkable now.Read more

This marries fruit from the uppermost of Müllen’s four terraces in Hühnerberg with fruit from below the terraced section (the same steep sector that yielded this year’s impressive “no star” Spätlese trocken). Pineapple, white peach and mint mingle on the nose with site-typical suggestions of woodsmoke. The silken palate is at once soothingly cooling and tinglingly invigorating, with sweetness supportively judged without trying to become a dominant player in its own right. Hints of quince and caramel point to advanced ripeness (with a trace of botrytis) and are gorgeously complemented by the wine’s textural richness and subtle sweetness on a lusciously lingering finish. The balance of richness with fresh fruit juiciness and the impeccable balance of sweetness are features I have generally missed in residually sweet Müllen bottlings of past vintages. (Whether or not this wine’s vineyard origins or the fact that it is the collection’s sole sweet Hühnerberg Spätlese account for its being labeled without stars, don’t let that mislead you – even if Müllen encourages this – to anticipate less than top quality.)

The 2021 Barbera d'Asti Superiore Bionzo is redolent of blackberry, gravel, incense, licorice, graphite and dark spice. As always, the Bionzo is a brooding Barbera from Asti although these days the wines aren't as huge as they were just a few years ago.

The 2021 Barbera d'Alba Gallina is pretty impressive in this vintage. Dark and potent, with terrific persistence, the Gallina has plenty of texture that has always been a signature but without the heaviness and strong oak imprint that was at times penalizing. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, mocha and rose petals scream out of the glass. Pretty floral top notes brighten the finish.

The 2024 Bianco Secco is a model of purity with its bouquet of dusty florals, cracked slate, lime zest and green melon. It opens with a balanced inner sweetness offset by a sour citrus tinge as tart green apple enhances its tension. A salty flourish punctuates the experience as hints of young kiwi mix with apricot through the long and wonderfully fresh finish. This is a refined and captivating vintage of Bianco Secco, a wine that continues to punch well above its class.

44,00 INC. VAT The story:From a research on ultracentenary vines present in our historic vineyards we found out this old variety probably was used as phylloxera answer around 1800. From here the idea of recreating a little piece of vineyard without the american root, looking for a wine "of story" but also of revival. Crisp and Sapid, fruity and floral on the nose. Structured and mineral palate.Add to cart

Ripe pear and lime wreathed in buddleia and lily-of-the-valley make for an alluring nose and then lusciously inform a seductively creamy, delicate palate. Smoky black tea and incisive fresh ginger lend invigoration to a finish that sensationally extends the wine’s intense pure fruit, along with a liquefaction of its floral perfume. Why no stars? Apparently Müllen thought this wine was beyond all that. He was right.

50,00 INC. VAT Not for the first time, Müllen views a "two-star" Hühnerberg Spätlese – this one issuing from two broad upper terraces and the site’s oldest vines (likely ones recorded as having been planted by Langguth in 1898) – as superior to the corresponding Hühnerberg Auslese trocken. (In fact, he’s asking nearly twice the price.) Sometimes the difference in Prädikat reflects a distinct difference in character, but in the present instance, Müllen had to bottle as “Auslese” a batch that slightly exceeded the legal limit for free SO2 in white wines of Prädikat Spätlese. As is also often the case, Müllen’s dry “two-star” Hühnerberg was the last wine of its vintage to get bottled. A fascinating nose offers chamomile, iris, ginseng and peach kernel, anticipating the subtly musky, piquant, hard-to-capture elements that join luscious flesh of white peach on a glossy and expansive palate. The influence of over 12,5% alcohol is felt in terms of body but fortunately not heat. The correspondingly complex finish features a decisive undertone of wet stone, and grips with remarkable persistence, its piquant elements well integrated. 93 pts

The 2021 Guidalberto, San Guido's blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is soft, succulent and alluring right out of the gate. The supple contours of Merlot lend fleshiness to this mid-weight, racy Maremma blend. Ripe red cherry fruit, spice, leather and tobacco are nicely pushed forward. Best of all, the 2021 will drink well right out of the gate.

Brilliant garnet-red color, with warmer tinges developing over time. Unmistakeable bouquet, very pleasant, intense yet ethereal, very persistent, at times spiced, with aromas of truffles, liquorice and dried flowers. Dry taste, with important, full tannins.

The 2021 Barolo is fabulous. Aromatic, pliant and wonderfully inviting. Oddero's Barolo shows just how appealing this vintage is. Crushed flowers, red/blue-toned fruit, spice and perfumed notes build nicely in the glass. Polished, silky tannins wrap it all together in style. Vineyard sources are Bricco Chiesa, Capalot, Bricco Fiasco and a bit of Galina. Antonio Galloni. Tasting date: January 2025   92 pts © 2025 Vinous Media

The 2020 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano seduces with a savory and darkly alluring blend of dried black cherries, mentholated herbs, clove and shavings of citrus-laced dark chocolate. It sweeps across the palate with textures of pure silk, showcasing stunning minerality as crisp red berry fruits cascade across a core of stimulating acidity. It finishes incredibly long, leaving a salty flourish and a bitter cocoa twang as grippy tannins frame the experience beautifully. The 2020 possesses an incredibly classic feel.

  •  55,00 NO VAT (private collection) This vintage is a bit closed on the nose at a young age, it needs to breathe in the glass to reach its rich aromatic complexity. It recalls the Mediterranean scrub and its essences, strawberry tree, juniper but also earthy and humus notes. Its complex nuances identify its belonging to the terroir of origin. In the mouth the tannins are perfectly integrated, and their maturity accompanies the natural length of the wine on the palate, where freshness and depth stay in the foreground. Excellent salinity, not intrusive, which gives good length and persistence to the nose.Add to cart

As usual, Molitor’s exclusively small-barrel-raised “three-star” Pinot Blanc introduces some overt notes of oak on the nose and slight stiffening and drying to this variety’s usual engaging combination of textural creaminess with refreshment. But it still harbors plenty of interest. Musky suggestions of narcissus mingle with scents of corn shoots, lime peel and bruised apple skin. Fuller than its two ostensibly lesser counterparts but by no means heavy, this offers a cooling midpalate suggestion of mint-laced apple and lime sorbet, leading to a lingering if slightly woody finish enhanced by saliva-inducing salinity.

Barbaresco Gallina is typically elegant with its refined bouquet and palate, and assertive tannins. It is the expression of a marl soil rich in fine sand. Red in colour with pale garnet tinges. Particular finesse in the bouquet, with balance and complexity, scents of ripe red fruit, spices and violets (typical of Nebbiolo). Mouth-filling tannins, excellent persistence on the palate.

"The 2022 Barbaresco Gallina is a classy, understated offering. Crushed flowers, orange peel, cinnamon and red-toned fruit all grace this elegant, understated Barbaresco. The 2022 is on the lighter side structurally, but all the elements are impeccably balanced."

A classic vintage for Barolo, 2019 is a Barolo with a very strong and austere structure, wines with great aging potential that will give us some of the best bottles of this denomination in the future. Pressenda, one of the most suitable vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, is characterized by the elegance and intensity of its aromas. Ruby red color with garnet reflections in the glass, intense aromas of balsamic herbs, undergrowth and berries on the nose, on the palate firm tannin but enveloping and very ripe, very vertical and elegant texture.

"The 2019 Barolo Pressenda unfolds in the glass with dark red cherry, menthol, licorice, rose petal, mint, sweet spice and orange peel. Firm tannins are pretty forbidding at this stage, but that should be less of an issue with bottle age. This opens nicely with time in the glass."

Tasting notes: 2019 Barolos come with a very strong and austere structure; they’re wines with great aging potential that can give us among the best bottles of this denomination in the future.

Our "Cerviano-Merli" stands out for its richness and longevity, with an imposing structure and complexity of aromas. This thanks to the

soils mainly clay and limestone of this cru of Novello. Fruits of mature woods, musk and balsamic herbs to the nose, precede a palate made of power, austere tannins and elegance typical of great Barolo. The best for this wine will come in 3-4 years, with an aging potential that also looks to the next 20-30 years

"The 2019 Barolo Cerviano-Merli is a dark, layered wine. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice, cloves and gravel are some of the many notes that take shape in this dynamic, layered Barolo. Give this a few years to soften."
