The 2021 Aile d’Argent has a more Sauvignon-driven bouquet with lime flower, orange pith, a hint of grapefruit and gooseberry. The palate is well-balanced with a spicy entry, just a hint of ginger, well-balanced with a saline finish. This is absolutely delicious.

€ 25,40 INC. VAT 2024 was a cooler year compared to the previous two, with numerous periods of rainfall that helped replenish the region’s water reserves, which had been depleted by drought. These conditions led to wines with slightly lower alcohol content and excellent freshness and drinkability. Cinerino 2024 appears in the glass with a yellow hue and intense golden reflections. On the nose, it reveals its distinctive aromatic expressiveness. Balsamic and aromatic herbs open up a refreshing bouquet, paired with delicate notes of exotic fruit and subtle hints of acacia honey. On the palate, the tasting reveals one of this wine’s finest qualities: a full and fleshy mouthfeel, balanced by the freshness of its acidity and the return of aromatic herbs in the retro-nasal finish. A rich and complex wine, yet not difficult to enjoy—in fact, it will likely win you over at the very first sip. VAT Not for the first time, Müllen views a "two-star" Hühnerberg Spätlese – this one issuing from two broad upper terraces and the site’s oldest vines (likely ones recorded as having been planted by Langguth in 1898) – as superior to the corresponding Hühnerberg Auslese trocken. (In fact, he’s asking nearly twice the price.) Sometimes the difference in Prädikat reflects a distinct difference in character, but in the present instance, Müllen had to bottle as “Auslese” a batch that slightly exceeded the legal limit for free SO2 in white wines of Prädikat Spätlese. As is also often the case, Müllen’s dry “two-star” Hühnerberg was the last wine of its vintage to get bottled. A fascinating nose offers chamomile, iris, ginseng and peach kernel, anticipating the subtly musky, piquant, hard-to-capture elements that join luscious flesh of white peach on a glossy and expansive palate. The influence of over 12,5% alcohol is felt in terms of body but fortunately not heat. The correspondingly complex finish features a decisive undertone of wet stone, and grips with remarkable persistence, its piquant elements well integrated. 93 pts Add to cart -

The 2021 Haut-Brion Blanc was very impressive from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a complex, finely delineated bouquet with dried white flowers and a touch of beeswax percolating through the green apple and Conference pear aromas. The palate is quite harmonious and tensile, full of energy and focused, with a dab of stem ginger popping up on the finish. There’s real sustain on the close here—a superb Haut-Brion Blanc.

Even so, I suspect it, like the other 2021 whites in the Clarence Dillon stable, is going through a closed phase. The textural richness and volume are evident, though. Slate, crushed rocks, citrus peel, white pepper and mint all come alive in the glass. Sauvignon Blanc energy drives the aromatics and an overall feel of tension, while the mid-palate richness of the 55% Sémillon is felt in the resonating breadth of the finish.
