The 2021 Kalterersee Classico Superiore Quintessenz is wild and woodsy in the glass. Spunky wild berries, peppery herbs and florals form its bouquet. This is softly textured yet energetic, with a tension-building mix of tart red fruit and sour citrus. It finishes spicy and with an acidic concentration, leaving lavender and blackberry traces to fade. This rendition of Kaltern’s Kalterersee demands to be enjoyed alongside a meal and would perfectly contrast a plate of regional speck or salumi.

The 2021 Riesling Alte Reben White Capsule is made from vines with a minimum age of 60 - 90 years and some centenarians. This is a blend of old vine parcels across the Middle Mosel. Here, just a little shake of the glass unleashes a whole chorus of bright citrus. Lime and lemon but also aromatic tangerine dance first on the nose, then on the palate. Zestiness is the name of the game on a slender, dry body that reverberates with citrus aromas. A real bargain full of flavor and depth. (Bone-dry)

Ripe apple and pear are accompanied on the nose by a greenhouse-like evocation of flowers and foliage that’s highly characteristic of Molitor 2018s. The midpalate is buoyant, caressingly creamy and lusciously fruity. Seed piquancy lends a welcome, stimulating modicum of counterpoint on a generously juicy, stone-kissing finish.

The 2021 Le Difese is redolent of crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and sweet pipe tobacco. Medium in body yet nicely layered, the 2021 is impeccably balanced. It is also a sheer delight to taste at this early stage. In many vintages, Le Difese is a fruity, forward wine, but the 2021 has a nervy feeling of classicism that is hugely appealing. It's one of my favorite recent vintages. As it has been for some time, Le Difese is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate and Sangiovese purchased from several properties in Chianti Classico, with the energy of Sangiovese very much driving the feel in this vintage.

€ 29,00 NO VAT (private collection) The Pinner dazzles with its pink-tinged, golden-amber color and bouquet of dusty dried flowers, young mango and crushed stone. There are depths of silky textures here, carried across a medium-bodied frame while neatly contrasted by zesty acids and minerals. Ripe orchard fruits and cooling herbal tones resonate from start to finish, yet the end note here is lip-smacking sour tropical citrus. The Pinner is a varietal Pinot Noir, but not technically a Rosé, which takes its color from spending nine months sur lie in stainless steel with daily bâtonnage. - Eric Guid0

More savory than expected, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Montosoli opens with a blend of rose petals, damp earth, sage and dried strawberries. It rushes the palate with sweet cherry-berry fruits and spice, all guided by juicy acidity. This finishes remarkably fresh with a hard red candy and licorice tinge that lingers.

Heady, decadent perfume of lily, heliotrope and honeysuckle liquefy on a buoyant, polished palate that, thanks to an onrush of juicy fresh apple and grapefruit, exhibits more cut and freshness, albeit less flattering creaminess on the palate than does the corresponding Wehlener. This wine’s sense of vintage-typical richness is conveyed on the impressively sustained finish largely by floral perfume, while the fruit flavors continue to project surprising freshness.
