Lilian and Michel Barton Sartorius acquired this property in August 2011, with daughter Mélanie installed as winemaker since 2013. They bring the same expertise and experience to bear here as at their Saint-Julien châteaux, Langoa- and Léoville-Barton, which have been in the Barton family for eight generations. In 2022, Merlot makes up 55% of the blend, Cabernet Sauvignon 36%, Cabernet Franc 9%, currently ageing in 1/3 new oak barrels. “It is quite a cool terroir at Mauvesin,” Lilian told us in April 2023. “There is a lot of clay in the vineyards which helped to retain precious water. And we have a number of natural springs, which help create a cooler microclimate.” This may explain the vibrant freshness and clarity of fruit of this 2022, which is the best Mauvesin we remember tasting young. Colour is deep ruby-purple, the nose being fragrant and ripe. Palate is full, with bright fruitiness, acidity and tannins in fine balance, and lovely length

Deep red colour. The nose develops aromas of ripe black fruit, blackcurrant and blackberry, with a hint of mint. The wine is full and velvety on the palate. The oak note is mellow and well-integrated. The wine is straightforward on the palate, with a long finish.
