2019 Mauro Veglio Vigneto Rocche dell’Annunziata Barolo Riserva DOCG

 98,00 INC. VAT

The 2019 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell’Annunziata is a potent wine. The more floral, savory side of Rocche dell’Annunziata comes through in a deep, virile Barolo that drinks well today. As always, there’s a bit more new oak in the Rocche than in the other Barolos because of the small size of Veglio’s parcel.

Notwithstanding a very challenging vintage, the team led by Mauro Veglio and his nephew, Alessandro, turned out a set of very pretty and expressive wines. The single-vineyard Barolos now see 20-25 days on the skins (a bit less for the straight Barolo) with two pumpovers a day. Oak impact is also way down. The Paiagallo and Serralunga Barolos are aged in cask, while the other Barolos are aged in French oak, with about 20% new wood. Veglio remains an estate to watch.

Age of vineyards: planted in the 1980s

Vine training system: guyot

Vinification
: the vinification of Rocche dell’Annunziata underwent a

maceration with the skins in stainless steel tanks at controlled

temperature for 20 days. During this period there was a delicate

extraction accompanied by daily pumping over. After racking, the

malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks.

Afterwards, the wine was placed in barrique, 30% new and 70%

second and third passage, where it rested for a total of 24 months.

After decanting in stainless steel tanks, the wine was bottled for

additional aging of over two and a half years.

Color: intense ruby red with garnet hues

Aroma: penetrating, captivating, and highly aromatic with classic

notes of red fruit and hints of freshly cut flowers, hay, and sweet

spices.

Flavor: austere and noble, with great vigor, fullness, savoriness, and

minerality. The excellent terroir and particular microclimate create a

unique complexity.
